What You'll Need:

  • Pastry for single-crust pie (9 inches)

    FILLING:
  • 6 cups peeled, chopped tart apples (6 medium)
  • 2 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted
  • 2 tablespoons sour cream
  • 4 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • TOPPING:
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup cold butter or margarine

Step by Step:

  1. Line a 9-inch pie plate with pastry; flute edges.
  2. In a bowl, combine the apples, butter, sour cream, lemon juice, sugar, flour, cinnamon and nutmeg.
  3. Spoon into pastry shell.
  4. For topping, combine flour and sugar in a bowl; cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Sprinkle over filling.
  6. Bake at 375ºF for 45-50 minutes or until the filling is bubbly and the apples are tender.
  7. Cool on a wire rack.

Yield: 12-15 servings
